Medusa. Contemporary Playwriting in Europe

Drama Panorama

Founded in 2009, Drama Panorama: Forum for Translation and Theatre is a non-profit association linking theatre translators and playwrights with theatre practitioners and institutions. The association organises workshops, staged readings and panel discussions to promote international theatre exchange and present contemporary drama in German translation. Drama Panorama brings together translators from over twenty languages and has extensive experience with formats that showcase new plays addressing social and political themes. Through its book series “Drama Panorama – Neue internationale Theatertexte”, published by Neofelis Verlag Berlin, it makes contemporary theatre texts from different linguistic and cultural contexts accessible to a German-speaking audience.

Recent projects include PANORAMA #1 (2021) and PANORAMA #2 (2022), two series of events featuring workshops, staged readings and panel discussions across multiple German cities; the 2023 festival “Neue Übersetzungen internationaler Dramatik” in Berlin, which presented nine contemporary plays from nine countries in German translation; the ten-year-old festival “Ein Stück: Tschechien”, showcasing contemporary Czech plays in German translation; and the DÜF-funded 2025 workshop “Zwischen den Sprachen”, examining collaborative translation processes, multilingual practice and the role of translators as cultural mediators. These initiatives foster networks of translators, playwrights and theatre professionals, support international exchange and promote the professional recognition of theatre translation.
